Music Soothes Minds of Babies and Kids

As you all may know, I have a small sister who is now 3+ months old. And, we have found that she loves music. If she’s crying a lot, switch on music and she will immediately get quiet. Isn’t that cool? And you know how we got to know she loves music? Well that’s because after her birth when we returned to Delhi from Goa she used to cry a lot (may be because of change of place and weather) and whenever we would switch on music she would stop wailing. And, that change was pretty instant. Isn’t it amazing. Thats why we always keep an i pod in the room 🙂  In fact research shows that music soothes infants and kids. Mamma says it may help in their brain development.

Mamma tells me that when I was as small as Sufiana, and until I was three or four, I loved this particular song that mamma always sang it to me. I would like to share that song with you – Tum Se Hi Din Hota Hai (from the movie Jab We Met). Please listen to this song, it has beautiful melody and lyrics.

She is a very carm baby. She listens to music everyday. Infact most part of the day.

Now there are some songs I am going to share for you. And those are.

Some of the songs that we play for Sufiana are:

This song is wonderful. Mostly everyone will like it. It is called Kuch Toh Hai Tuj Se Raabta.

In English it means- I Have Some Connection With You.

And there are also some songs that are Sufiana’s favorite. Like – BhummroIt is based on Kashmiri traditional/folk music.

There is one more song called Brown Girl In The Ring. Even I like this. Mamma loves many Boney M. songs.

What’s your favourite song?

Isnt it sweet watching your lil sister ..must be a bit like watching yourself growing as a baby :)? My son used to respond to music a lot even when he was in my belly, by kicking. Till date ( he is 6 ) he enjoys music. His favourite is ‘mera ishq sufiana’ (yes) and Lucky Ali’s – Kabhi aisa lagta hai. He also likes One Direction’s – You are beautiful, also ‘living in the moment’ by Jason Marz.

    • Pari says:

Wow! Good he likes music. I like music too:-) yes when i see sufiana i feel like me becoming small again and growing up! mera ishq sufiana song i have heard. It is same as sufiana’s name! I will listen to the songs you recommended:-)

    Hi Pari,

I came to your blog when your mom shared it on Facebook. You write very well. Delighted to see how clearly you have expressed yourself.

I completely agree with you, that kids are enchanted and soothed by music. My son Pranav, who is now 9, had a lot of speech problems when he was 2 yrs. He too, loved music and songs. The first words he spoke where what he learnt from songs, rather than what we tried to teach him by speech therapy!!

Do keep writing. It makes me happy to see how sweetly you express your beautiful thoughts.

    Hugs. Padma

        Thanks for the reply!

Yes, Pranav still loves music, but he can’t tolerate anyone playing or singing off-key. So my husband and I take care to restrict our singing to the bathroom.

I dont have a blog, but i have a great love affair with words. So when i find someone writing well, I try to absorb a little bit of their style. I can see that you have a flair with words and are open to learn. 100% guranteed that you will be a good writer.

I’ll keep reading your blog. Blessed Be Pari.
